Sunday Musings From Under the Steps: To Be A Individual

Individuality is what opens the coral, frees you from the rest of the herd and gives you the opportunity to find greener pastures.

Individuality is never apologizing for being different from the flock.

Being a individual is loving yourself enough to not only march to a different drummer, but do so while wearing a cowboy hat and a tutu.

And sometimes, being an individual wasn't a choice. But accepting and making it work for you was.

Homeless local. Kailua Kona, Big Island of Hawaii.

Be brave, my individuals. Be you.

  1. Very cool! I don't like being like everyone else, but I do like to be accepted sometimes. It's why I don't like diamonds-EVERYBODY likes diamonds. Give me something with color!

I don't know that I'm brave enough for a tutu, though....

    Have a great week!

  2. To be true to ourselves, we must first know who we are. Sadly, so few people do -- that is why so many are pale echoes of important others in their lives.

Sometimes those who walk bizarrely are unsure of who they are as well. Odd manner of dress is just another mask to hide our true fragile self. If I put out a manner sure to be rejected, I can tell myself that it was my goth outfit that turned people off. They never saw me truly so my sense of self is untouched and safe.

If I drop the mask, the poses, the odd dress, and you still reject me, I am devastated, for you have rejected the only thing I truly possess -- myself.

  9. Words Crafter: I like being accepted, but only if its as myself. I feel ya and I feel ya about diamonds. I'm a labradorite girl myself with a dash of pearls. ;-D

Roland: You talk of posers I think. Those who wear the costumes of real originals because they are lost or uncertain or afraid to be themselves. I had a darker goth streak for a time, but I still liked blue jeans and cowboy boots. The real me can not help but come out. In the end I never wanted to misrepresent myself. I do however believe in fake it till you are it, but you better be able to back it up or it doesn't work.

Thank you Roland. Very very good insight.

    Old Kitty: Totally agree!!!!!

B.E.: That is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child. She will always reap the rewards of that lesson.

D.L.: Brain Peeking was my old job. ;-)

Mohamed: And equally brave to find yourself.

Medeia: I completely agree. As I grow older this is more and more true.
