Weekend Recap: Cherry Springs and Star Things

As I may have mentioned, my husband and I are stargazers. From 13,803 feet at the tip top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii to Cherry Springs astronomy field, we have seen some pretty sky.

The last two years we have added weekend camping trips to our stargazing repertoire. Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania has proven to be a perfect spot for us, in stargazing, in natural sites and in local charm with it's string of neighboring state parks and small lumber towns down and around Rte 66. This last weekend was our third trip into the wonderfully dark zoned heart of PA and I would have to say the best in weather (but not in bugs!!!). Jim is still working on his astro photos, but I do have one from a trip back. The Orion Nebula.
Here are a few other more earth bound pics to illustrate our experience...
Waiting for night to fall on the astronomy field.

Morning trip to PA's Grand Canyon. Popular amongst sightseers, hikers, bikers, horse and canoe tours.

A little local color.

And some nature...

  1. Absolutely beautiful pictures! My new WIP is about a girl who comes from another planet. That first pic is very inspirational. =D

  2. Thank you and that WIP sounds like something up my alley! I am glad the pic will be cataloged into someone elses head as muse material. Just looking up to the stars or out to nature gives me the creative tingles. After watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind when I was a kid, I never did stop looking up and out around me. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I love that pict of the Queen Anne's lace! So pretty. I don't see that much of it here in the midwest. Must be looking in the wrong places.
    Lovely picts, thanks for sharing!

  4. It is a lovely weed. I bet you have your own pretty weeds in the midwest?

When I was a little girl, my grandmother would tell me the Queen Ann's lace was named after me--Nicole Ann. Grandmother did have her sweet moments.

And thank you! I enjoy taking them.

  5. Looks like an amazing trip. So beautiful out there. My husband and I just lie on the sidewalk and watch the Perseid Showers from our cul-de-sac. Our neighbors think we're nuts...but its worth it.

  6. The Perseids is coming up the 12th of August isn't it? *marking calender* And as for your neighbors...nuts to them. It is worth it.

Presently we live in suburbia (transplanted country girl)and I find myself out on the drive to watch a good storm go through or what stars that escape the areas light pollution. The neighbors stare, I wink and wave. I see it as practice for my future title of crazy neighborhood lady.

And thank you so much for the kind words and shared interest. ;-D
