If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!
by Shel Silverstein
A fairly apt definition of a writer, I think. Dream well my writing comrades. Write well and often.
More and more, I want a Shel Silverstein book! I fell in love with 'Where The Sidewalk Ends' (the poem, don't have the book) and this quote you've used is wonderful. Thanks for it. BTW, your Fairytale post says the page doesn't exist.....I was looking forward to reading it :(
ReplyDeleteOOPS! I'll have it up tomorrow, along with my Fight! Fight! Fight! entry. I accidentally posted and then took down last night. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteAnd I recommend any of his books. Good for the young and young at heart. Have a great week.
I like this poem. great for the soul too.
ReplyDeleteYes, I looked for your fairy tale entry, as well, but no luck.
ReplyDeleteThought a cyber gremlin had eaten it. Or a cyber-zombie -- you know they trudge about, moaning, "Words, words, words."
I look forward to reading your entries for both the fairy tale and fight blogfests. Roland
Shel Silverstein seems like a wise and thought-provoking writer. I will definitely add some of his books to my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it describes a writer perfectly. We, writers, are dreamers, buyers, hope-ers, wishers, and pray-ers.
So, write on and be the writer that you are!
Summer: Absolutely!
ReplyDeleteRoland: Those damned cyber-Zombies. I had a attack of those just the other day. Had to get out my machete and double barrel. And thanks. I hope to see you around the fests as well!
Vatche: He was a wonderful children's poet--and adult. Also a illustrator and musician. The books are pleasant read.
I remember when I was a pre-teen and came upon this poem, the intro to Where the Side Walk Ends. It clicked for me. And thank you. I hope to be better than the writer I am. Do the same. ;-D
Well put! I'll remember this:)
